A month later. Yesterday, she received the third letter from Jiang Wanqian again. this time Jiang Wanqian no longer begged Xiao Yutang to meet up with her, instead the letter detailed the times they had spent together.
……. I remembered that your favourite colour was Goose-yellow, that’s why I chose to write to you using a goose-yellow colored envelope and a goose coloured writing paper. I wonder if you still like that color?
I have always admired you. You were beautiful and intelligent, just like a princess. Not only that, you also treated everyone with kindness, you were the kindest to me among all our classmates. When the class had held a party that year, the teacher made it a rule that all girls were to wear dresses to the party. And knowing that I did not have any nice dresses to wear, you lent me your most treasured goose-yellow lace dress.
These were all my cherished memories about you.
I remembered that your birthday was this month. In a blink of an eye we are already turning seventeen. Time flies quickly doesn’t it? Wouldn’t it be amazing if I could be reunited with you this year?
At the end of the letter, Jiang Wanqian left her contact address, as per usual.
Xiao Yutang had been receiving letters for the past three months. Last night, out of curiosity, Su Ying had asked her who had sent the letters. Xiao Yutang offhandedly brushed it off because it wasn’t very appropriate to throw the letter out in front of Su Ying. She stuffed the letter into her drawer. The incident had not been occurring until today, making her notice a little coincidence–the cursed dream always occurred on the nights she received Jiang Wanqian’s letters.
But even if it was a coincidence, the frequency of it happening was just too high.
Alas, she decided to shut the drawer and ignore the letter for the time being.
She can ignore the first two times she got the letter, but after reading the third letter and becoming aware of these aspects, Xiao Yutang began to recall back the past that Jiang Wanqian mentioned in the letter.
Yang Xin noticed that she looked distraught. 「Yutang, is there something on your mind? 」
Hearing her words, Su Ying and Chen Xiangxiang spun their heads.
「Are you in a daze again Yutang? You look so absent-minded today.」Chen Xiangxiang observed her through the mirror of the washstand.
「She has been acting strangely ever since this morning. She overslept even though she’s usually the first one to be up. I’m guessing she stayed in bed on purpose because she didn’t want to attend the G.I’s class . 」Su Ying stated.
「Yutang overslept? Then that’s really not normal. Perhaps, are you sick?」Yang Xin stretched her hand to touch her forehead.
「I’m fine, don’t listen to Su Ying’s nonsense.」Xiao Yutang hurriedly denied, using her eyes to hint at her roommate to not be so loudmouthed.
On their way back to the classroom from the toilet, the four of them heard a heated argument from afar. Curiously, they headed over to the source of the voice.
By the time they had arrived, there was already a crowd of students who stopped to spectate. Two guards were blocking a middle-aged-man who was trying to break into the school.
The man’s face was covered with stubbles. His cheeks were flushed, and with a hoarse voice he bellowed, 「Wu Deyin you murderer, get the fuck out of there and face me! 」
「Mr Liu, we have told you that the principal is abroad and not in school」the guard who was holding down the middle-aged-man helplessly reiterated.
「Bullshit, she must be guilty of something. I will not rest until she comes out to face me! 」
Seeing this scene, Chen Xiangxiang frowned, 「Who is he? Why is he accusing our principal a murderer?」
「There was a freshman who commited suicide in the Junior High department, would this be related to that?」As soon as Yang Xin gave this remark, Su Ying immediately nodded her head 「Right, was it the freshman named Liu Zhijie? But I still can’t figure what’s going on.」
「They say the freshman’s parents got divorced. He had wanted to stay in the german military service school instead of moving to a new city with his mother to study, but his father did not agree to let him stay there either. After the transfer procedures were done, he then got depressed」Yang Xin shared what she knew about the incident, throwing a glance at Chen Xiangxiang.
「Then he must be Liu Zhijie’s father right? What does this have anything to do with the principal? Why did he only condemn the principal a month after his son’s death? 」Su Ying was puzzled.
More and more people came to watch the commotion, their eyes interrupting Father Liu’s frantic shouting. His bloodshot eyes swept over each and every student present.
「Look at what Wu Deyin has done…just look at these children’s eyes! 」the man pointed at the youthful faces in front of him, making a heartrending accusation,「Is this how Wu Deyin brainwashes the children? Just like what she did to my son. The biggest mistake I have ever made in my life was sending my son to this hellhole. Not only did Wu Deyin kill my son, but she even plans on continuing harming these kids. Wu Deyin will definitely get the retribution she deserves. She will go to hell ! 」
After the police brought the man away, the drama came to an end. The students scattered off like birds too.
「Looks like it’s another unfortunate being who was driven to death by his own parents.」Yang Xin commented woefully.
「I think he got what he deserved.」Su Ying shrugged her shoulders, 「He shouldn’t have left the decision on the hands of his parents in the first place.」
「That’s right, it’s all because of his stupidity. When his parents forcefully took him away from the school without considering his feelings, he should’ve realised that they were not to be trusted.」Chen Xiangxiang replied coldly.
Yang Xin was in deep thought. She averted her eyes and noticed that Xiao Yutang was not participating in the conversation but was rather staring fixedly at somewhere. Confused by her behaviour, she asked「What’s wrong?」
「Nothing.」Xiao Yutang shook her head and retracted her gaze.
Rather than sympathy and pity, their discussion of the incident was more of an unconcerned condemnation. And the target of their discussion was not the father who had come to the school to cause a ruckus, but the freshman who was desperately walking on a road full of dead ends.
